Cathy’s practice emphasizes general client counseling, patent prosecution, and litigation in all areas of chemistry and pharmaceutical sciences, including small molecule drugs and formulations. She counsels clients regarding the development of products, navigating the competitive intellectual property landscape, and has conducted due diligence on numerous patent portfolios.

A Bigger Picture:

Cathy works with clients to protect their innovations and procure intellectual property through collaborations, executing intellectual property strategies that are integrated with the business and strategic goals of her clients. Cathy specializes in intellectual property relating to pharmaceuticals and general chemistry applications such as small molecule drugs, salt forms, solid forms, and chemical processes. Cathy has also worked on various litigation matters involving pharmaceutical and chemical products.

In addition to her experience as an intellectual property attorney, Cathy draws on the practical knowledge obtained during her years working as a research chemist in drug discovery. Her technical experience includes work as a Chemist for Vertex Pharmaceuticals, Abbott Laboratories, and Parke-Davis. Cathy is an inventor on five issued US Patents.

Cathy’s graduate research experience includes work as a Research Fellow at the Yale University Department of Chemistry, where she developed new approaches to synthesizing natural products. While an Undergraduate Research Fellow at the Indiana University Department of Chemistry, Cathy focused on synthesizing modified DNA and RNA molecules.

Cathy is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, and is a member of the Massachusetts Bar. Before joining LL&A, she was an Associate in the Boston office of Fish & Richardson, P.C., a large multinational IP law firm, where she was a member of the Life Sciences Practice Group.

When she’s not working, Cathy enjoys spending time with her husband and their young son, Ethan. Once Ethan masters his ABC’s, she’s planning to teach him the Periodic Table of Elements.
