David Lu, Technical Specialist

David is a technology specialist, whose practice includes a variety of intellectual property matters, including patent prosecution, opinion work, due diligence and general intellectual property counseling in the areas of biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, immunology, genetics, genomics, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology.

A Bigger Picture:

Before joining LL&A, David was a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Cancer Biology at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and the Department of Genetics at Harvard Medical School.  He was a recipient of the Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award Individual Fellowship from the National Institute of Health.

David's research background includes investigations in virology including the molecular biology of the replication cycle of HIV-1 and several pathogenic human herpesviruses; in cancer biology including breast and ovarian tumorigenesis; and in RNA biology including microRNA, RNA interference, and mRNA export.  He received his Ph.D. in Molecular Genetics and Microbiology and a certificate in Bioinformatics and Genome Technology from Duke University Medical Center. His graduate lab was in the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. He also holds a certificate in computer software engineering from Chinese Ministry of Electronics Industry.

David is the author of 12 peer-reviewed research articles published in a variety of periodicals, including Cell, PNAS, PLoS Pathogen, Journal of Virology, RNA, and RNA Biology.  Prior to starting his Ph.D. study at Duke, he was a graduate research fellow at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. Before that, he was an associate and project leader in a research institute affiliated with the World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Center in Shanghai.

In his spare time, David enjoys keeping up with his favorite sports teams including the Duke Blue Devils and the New England Patriots. He loves traveling, art history and spending time with friends and family.
