Bios James C. de Vellis, Associate Snapshot:
James' practice includes worldwide patent prosecution and counseling, as well as drafting noninfringement and freedom to operate opinions. James has experience in a variety of electrical, electromechanical, telecommunications and software fields including wireless communications, radio frequency identification, antennae, tandem free signal oscillation, fault tolerant computer systems, milling machines, and semiconductor fabrication. A Bigger Picture: Prior to joining LL&A, James was an associate for Modiano Josif Pisanty & Staub in Milan, Italy, where he focused on US and European patent prosecution. He is admitted to practice before the state and federal courts in Massachusetts, and is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. James' article, "Patenting Industry Standards: Balancing the Rights of Patent Holders With the Need for Industry-Wide Standards," was published in the Quarterly Journal of the American Intellectual Property Law Association in March 2003. In order to advance his legal career and still satisfy his curiosity to learn a foreign language, James spent two and a half years immediately prior to joining LL&A as an expatriate living and working in Italy. The Italian landscapes also provided a more than suitable backdrop to advance his interest in his developing hobby as an amateur photographer. Living in Milan, James was an avid skier, and misses the Alps. He was also an avid eater, and misses the Italian kitchens. James is now readjusting to life stateside, and is busy enjoying all of the wonderful things to see and do in Boston and New England, while keeping his Italian language skills sharp and his camera clicking. He is enjoying his time with friends and family, and while he celebrated the 2006 World Cup with the rest of Italy, he is happy to again be watching the kind of football that is played with pads and helmets. |
