Bios Sandra Szela Congdon, Associate Snapshot:
Sandy is an associate who focuses her practice on patent counseling and prosecution, and trademark matters. She has prosecuted patent applications in various chemical, mechanical and life sciences technologies including water treatment, coatings, fuel cell technologies, genetic screening technologies, medical devices and consumer products. She uses both her management skills and laboratory research experiences to help clients realize the full potential of their intellectual property. Sandy is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. A Bigger Picture: Sandy comes to LL&A from the world of technology and product development. Working with a variety of clients at Tiax and Arthur D. Little, Sandy developed a number of products, including drug delivery devices and medical adhesives. Sandy first joined LL&A as a summer associate. While attending law school, she gained practical experience by working for IP patent counsel in the legal department at Boston Scientific. She also interned with in-house patent counsel at Biogen Idec. Sandy spent her undergraduate and graduate school experiences focused on scientific research, using both her chemical engineering and biotechnology expertise. As an undergraduate at Tufts University, she held a position as a Hughes Biomedical Research Fellow. During this fellowship, Sandy researched oxidative renaturation of hen egg-white lysozyme protein. Protein aggregation was studied using different oxidizing/reducing conditions to determine the optimal conditions for refolding. Sandy was awarded the Victor Prather Prize award acknowledging her commitment and dedication to scientific research and scholarly achievement.
