Bios Christopher R. Rhodes, Associate Snapshot:
Chris is an associate at LL&A, practicing in the areas of patent prosecution, litigation and counseling in the chemical, biochemical and biotechnical arts. He has assisted a wide variety of entities, ranging from start-up companies to multi-national corporations, in protecting and enforcing their intellectual property. A Bigger Picture: Chris joined LL&A in 2004, after spending almost four years as a patent agent and technical specialist at a large, multi-city intellectual property law firm. He is admitted to practice in Massachusetts and is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Chris has more than eight years of experience in all aspects of intellectual property, including patent prosecution and counseling in chemical, optical, physical, biochemical, pharmaceutical and biotechnical areas. Chris has particular expertise in chemical and analytical instrumentation, magnetic resonance, mass spectrometry, therapeutics, clinical diagnostics, fuel cells, bio-separations, toxin detection, optical technologies including thin film optical filters, nanomaterials, medical devices, surgical techniques, and materials used in assembly and processing of electrical devices such as solar cells . While at University of Virginia, Chris served as a research assistant and as a visiting lecturer for the Department of Chemistry, where he lectured undergraduate students in areas including biological chemistry, quantum mechanics and statistical thermodynamics. He was selected as the James H. Wray Intern at the University of Virginia Patent Foundation. Chris received his Bachelors of Science degree, cum laude, in Chemistry from Roanoke College. Chris has hands-on research experience with neural metabolites, bacterial toxins, cellular membranes, protein structure, computational chemistry, and fluorescent and phosphorescent materials. Chris has also been an Adjunct Faculty member in the Department of Natural Sciences at Assumption College in Worcester, MA. When Chris's research experience is combined with the experience gained assisting clients, the breadth and depth of his background is remarkable. Chris has assisted clients in various matters, including patent prosecution, drafting and negotiating license and research agreements, rendering of non-infringement, freedom to operate and invalidity opinions, and in due diligence matters relating to financing transactions and acquisitions. Prior to joining LL&A, Chris was a full-time patent agent and technical specialist while he attended the evening division at Suffolk University Law School. He received his Juris Doctor, cum laude, with an Intellectual Property Concentration, with distinction. When he’s at home, Chris enjoys spending time and playing with his daughter and sons, cycling and making very slow progress on never-ending remodeling jobs around the house. Once his daughter and sons are old enough to swing a hammer, the jobs should start getting finished. |
