Bios Robert V. Donahoe, Associate Snapshot:
Bob counsels a wide variety of clients in the strategic development of their domestic and foreign patent and trademark portfolios. Bob is often entrusted by technology companies to draft patent applications and develop filing strategies for core technology critical to the companies' success. Representative technologies include graphics processing systems, video image processing, mass flow controllers and other process control equipment, analog and digital circuits, power electronics, electromagnetic devices, data storage management systems, computer architecture, authentication systems, security devices, distributed Internet applications, cryptography and fluid-handling systems for consumer products. Bob also prepares technology development and licensing agreements, including in-bound software licenses for a large bio-technology company. Prior to joining LL&A, Bob was an associate in the Patent and Intellectual Property Group at Testa, Hurwitz & Thibeault, LLP, where he worked on prosecution, litigation support, IP due diligence and licensing. His practice included third-party dispute resolution, serving on a litigation team that won a seven-figure award before the International Court of Arbitration. A Bigger Picture: In addition to his experience as a patent prosecutor, Bob draws on a wealth of practical experience obtained during thirteen years as an electrical engineer. Following three years as an electrical and instrumentation engineer with DuPont, Bob spent five years as an engineer at a co-generation facility where he was responsible for capital projects and on-going maintenance on a wide variety of electrical and instrumentation systems including: boiler and turbine instrumentation and control systems; high voltage electrical systems; emissions monitoring equipment; and high pressure air system controls. Additionally, Bob spent five years working with GE Power Systems where he was responsible for developing and implementing system upgrades on customer-owned power system equipment, in particular, equipment owned by customers with large and complex electrical systems (e.g., data centers, large manufacturing facilities and large academic institutions). Bob also co-managed this regional service business for GE. Bob's in-depth experience gives him a unique background relevant to his current practice because he often had an opportunity to work with customers to develop the most effective approaches for upgrading infrastructure critical to the success of their businesses. In the May 2006 issue of Boston Magazine, Bob was recognized by Massachusetts Super Lawyers as a "Rising Star," a designation granted to approximately 2.5 percent of the best up-and-coming attorneys in the state. Bob is a devoted husband who enjoys the great outdoors. In fact, his outside interests keep him outside whenever possible. In the past few years, he has completed the construction of a number of dry stone walls on his property; he claims the projects went well, but the firm is still waiting for a site-inspection. Bob is now interested in learning another trade involving stonework (of a different sort) – slate roof repair. For leisure, Bob enjoys bow hunting for deer and wild turkey (yes, Bob eats what he kills). He also enjoys fishing, hiking, gardening, and landscaping. |
