A Bigger Picture:

Sarah has been with LL&A since its founding in 2003.  Her practice focuses on patent and trademark prosecution and counseling, working with clients to identify, protect and leverage their intellectual property rights.  Sarah has assisted clients with obtaining patent protection in a wide variety of technologies, including wireless communications, high performance data cables, semiconductor circuits and fabrication, microwave and RF devices, nuclear magnetic resonance devices, optical devices, software and business methods.  She is admitted to practice in Massachusetts and Connecticut, and is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.  Sarah serves on the Board of Directors for the International Paruresis Association, a not-for-profit organization, and is a member of the Womens Bar Association.

Prior to becoming associated with the firm, Sarah worked at LL&A as a full-time technology specialist while she attended the evening division at Suffolk University Law School.  Sarah received her Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, in May 2005.  During law school, Sarah received an Academic Leadership scholarship from Suffolk University, commendations for achieving the highest grade in a number of courses, as well as awards for excellent legal writing and oral advocacy.  In 2004, Sarah participated in the AIPLA Giles Rich Moot Court Competition, earning recognition for Best Advocate and Best Appellant's Brief for the Northeast Region.

Prior to joining LL&A, Sarah was a technology specialist at Wolf, Greenfield and Sacks, P.C., where she was primarily involved in foreign and domestic patent prosecution.  Before entering the field of intellectual property law, Sarah received her Bachelor’s degree, with honors, in Electrical Engineering from the University of Cape Town and spent several years working as an engineer. In 1998, she moved to the United States to pursue her Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, focusing on the use of coplanar waveguide technology for feed networks for microstrip patch antenna arrays. Her thesis work led to a paper entitled “Grounded coplanar waveguide-fed aperture-coupled cavity-backed microstrip antenna” which was published in the Electronics Letters Journal, 8th June 2000, Vol. 36 No. 12.

Away from the office, Sarah loves to spend time outdoors with her husband, and enjoys hiking, sailing and skiing.  Sarah also loves to read, cook and tend to her vegetable and herb garden, and she is trying to put her long commute to good use by learning French in the car.
