Thomas M. Sullivan and Ann Lamport Hammitte, Two Partners from Rival Firms, Join LL&A

Cambridge, MA, July 14, 2003 – Lowrie, Lando and Anastasi, LLP (LL&A) today announced that Thomas M. Sullivan and Ann Lamport Hammitte have joined the newly-established Intellectual Property law firm as Partners. Lowrie, Lando & Anastasi LLP is the newest Intellectual Property law firm in Boston. It challenges the traditional billing model which most law firms require, and, instead, focuses on quality of client and associate work while encouraging a more balanced professional and personal life. LL&A believes it is the first Intellectual Property firm in the region to respond to these and other key findings of the Boston Bar Association in its 1999 Taskforce report on “Professional Challenge and Family Needs”. Launched in June (2003) with three partners, the firm currently numbers 25 employees.

Mr. Sullivan joins LL&A from Mintz Levin Cohn Ferris Glovsky and Popeo P.C. of Boston, where he was a Member (Partner) and one of the founders of its Intellectual Property Section.

Ms. Hammitte joins from Lahive & Cockfield, LLP, of Boston where she had been a Partner since 1997 specializing in intellectual property law litigation and related actions. “We are delighted that Tom and Ann have joined Lowrie, Lando & Anastasi - particularly at this point in their careers,” said Peter C. Lando, one of the firm’s three Founding Partners. “By joining us not only are they demonstrating their commitment to bringing added value to clients and associates but also to achieving the firm’s vision of a strong and balanced work and personal life. It is truly a vision shared by all,” he concluded.

Tom is well experienced in all aspects of intellectual property law and, in particular, in strategies for successfully building and maintaining corporate patent portfolios. He is practiced in a wide range of technology fields including analog and digital electronics, power electronics, computer software and hardware, electromagnetics, electronics assembly and manufacturing, and computer vision systems. Prior to entering the field of law, Tom maintained a successful career as a Senior Electrical Design Engineer at Raytheon Corporation, and, in total, has over 10 years of experience as an Electrical Engineer. He received a Bachelor of Science degree, magna cum laude, in Electrical Engineering from the University of Lowell, a Masters Degree in Business Administration from New Hampshire College and a Juris Doctor degree, cum laude, from Suffolk University Law School. Tom is a member of the American Bar Association, the Boston Bar Association, the American Intellectual Property Law Association, and the Boston Patent Law Association.

Ann Lamport Hammitte specializes in trademark protection and enforcement, copyright law and intellectual property litigation. Her litigation experience spans patents, copyright and trademarks, and includes U.S. Opposition and Cancellation practice, U.S. Interference practice, and European Opposition practice. She has authored several papers on patent and copyright law, including a chapter entitled “Interference Practice” in the treatise “Intellectual Property Counseling and Litigation”. She is also a registered patent attorney with experience in a variety of technologies and is a trained mediator.

Ann is a member of the American Bar Association, the Massachusetts Bar Association, the Boston Bar Association, the Boston Patent Law Association, the International Trademark Association, the American Intellectual Property Lawyers Association, and Boston College Intellectual Property Inn of Court. She has served as a panel member and former board member of Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts. Ann received her Juris Doctor from Boston University. Prior to entering law school she was a research assistant in the fields of medical genetics and a staff member at the Medical Genetics Clinic affiliated with the Indiana University Medical Center. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in zoology and premedical science, cum laude, from DePauw University, and a Masters degree in Medical Genetics from Indiana University.
