Our Culture LL&A is built on a shared vision of excellence and balance, as well as the shared core values of integrity and fairness. We challenge each other to grow professionally and personally. We are proud members of our profession and of the work we do for our clients; we are grateful to our employees; and we are mindful of others’ priorities. Our culture is manifest in the manner we relate to each other. We are caring, civic-minded, collegial and accepting of others. We strive for fairness and encourage feedback to improve understanding. Our compensation structure reflects our commitment to fairness. The work we do is the same or higher quality than any other firm in the city and our staff compensation structure is intended to be competitive with any other firm in the area. It has been widely reported that LL&A has a lower annual billing requirement for associates than most firms. While this lower target is reflected in a slightly lower salary, the firm acknowledges those attorneys who bill more than 1600 hours with a bonus of 50% for each hour billed to a client, over the target. As a result, an associate who works hours comparable to those at the largest firms in Boston will generally be paid better at LL&A. LL&A’s management structure also reflects inclusiveness. There is no one managing partner; management consists of a three member committee. The management committee frequently provides firm-wide communications – updating all employees on new clients, client successes, new hires, and plans for growth. We strive for an open door policy, and encourage input and ideas for improvement from all employees at any time. LL&A’s legal practice also aims for inclusiveness. While our attorneys have developed areas of special expertise, we are not organized into formal practice groups to the exclusion of nonmembers. Within client teams, associates are transitioned in to management responsibility, to provide the greatest responsiveness to clients and to develop important professional skills. We also seek to deliver the best professional development opportunities to our professionals. The firm makes formal in-house and outside training programs available to all employees. All attorneys also have a budgeted discretionary account to use to attend programs, purchase resources, or take a colleague or client to lunch or dinner. LL&A holds a variety of firm events throughout the year for lawyers and staff – from holiday parties to outings; gatherings for birthdays, weddings, and anniversaries; impromptu firm-wide lunches and breakfasts; and occasional in-house meals on poor weather days. We are proud members of our profession and the work we do for our clients; we are appreciative of each other and encourage a fair and inclusive workplace for all to have fulfilling and enjoyable careers. |
